AT&T to deploy LTE-Advanced in 2013

AT&T plans to launch LTE-Advanced network technology in 2013.

AT&T plans to launch LTE-Advanced network technology in 2013. Speaking at the LTE North America conference in Dallas, Krish Prabhu, the CEO of AT&T Labs, said that operator intends to begin the deployment of its LTE-Advanced network in 2013. However no further details were provided.

Operator’s LTE deployment is still in early stage. AT&T has already launched 4G LTE in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio, and recently launched in four more markets on Nov. 6, including Athens, Ga., Baltimore, Boston, and Washington D.C. AT&T plans to offer 4G LTE in at least 15 markets total and to 70 million Americans by the end of 2011.

AT&T plans to deliver LTE over 700 MHz, as well as 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum, which enables strong coverage and excellent capacity.

Another US operator, Sprint already had said that it will deploy a LTE-Advanced network on its 800MHz spectrum from 2013. Sprint’s Vice President of Network Development and Engineering, Iyad Tarazi, told attendees at the 4G World conference that during the first half of 2013, sprint plans to launch an LTE-Advanced network.
