ZTE has announced that it completed the download test using carrier aggregation (CA) technology in a commercial environment in collaboration with Guangdong arm of China Mobile. The test took place in an outdoor TD-LTE network environment.

EE Launches LTE in Nine More Areas Across the UK
UK’s telecom operator, EE has made 4G LTE services available in nine new towns across the UK, bringing the total number of towns and cities covered by LTE to 27. EE switched on LTE today in Amersham, Bolton, Chelmsford, Hemel Hempstead, Southend-on-Sea, Stockport, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield and Wolverhampton.
SaskTel Launches Commercial 4G LTE Network in Regina and Saskatoon
Canada’s telecom service provider SaskTel will launch its 4G LTE network on January 31. At launch, LTE service will be available in Regina, Saskatoon, Clavet, Dundurn, Langham, Lumsden, Martensville, Osler, Pense, Vanscoy, Warman, and White City.
SK Telecom and Ericsson Demonstrate LTE-A TM-9 Technology
SK Telecom has successfully demonstrated a core LTE-Advanced technology named Transmission Mode 9 (TM-9) under partnership with Ericsson, operator announced today. TM-9 defines the way of transmission between mobile devices and base stations. It has been chosen as a new LTE-A specification by 3GPP in June 2011.
Sprint Expands LTE Service and Delivers an Improved 3G Experience in Puerto Rico
U.S. operator Sprint has significantly improved 3G service in Puerto Rico and also expanded 4G service by launching its LTE network in Aguadilla, Isabela, Cabo Rojo and Mayagüez. These cities are in addition to Ponce, Coamo and Guayama – which have offered LTE since 2012.

AT&T to Acquire 700 MHz Spectrum from Verizon for $1.9 Billion
AT&T has agreed to acquire spectrum in the 700 MHz B band from Verizon Wireless for $1.9 billion in cash and Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum licenses in several markets, including Phoenix, Ariz., Los Angeles and Fresno, Calif. and Portland, Ore.
KT Picks Tekelec’s Policy Server for LTE and 3G Networks
Mobile broadband solutions provider, Tekelec has announced that its Policy Server (PCRF) has been deployed by KT (South Korea) for its LTE and 3G networks. Tekelec’s Policy Server will support KT’s VoLTE offering, LTE data plans and Rich Communication Suite (RCS) service.
IS-Wireless Acquires Funds to Start Research on 5G
Warsaw-based LTE/LTE-Advanced IPR provider IS-Wireless has acquired funds for research on 5G radio interfaces. The funding is done through participation in 5GNOW European research project under the 7th Framework Program of EU.
Bidding in UK LTE Spectrum Auction Begins Today
UK’s 4G spectrum auction is now under way with seven bidders who are competing to acquire new LTE frequencies. The bidders are Everything Everywhere, HKT (UK) Company, Hutchison 3G UK, MLL Telecom, Niche Spectrum Ventures (a subsidiary of BT Group plc), Telefónica UK, and Vodafone.
