CIOL reports that Infotel has installed five WiMax base station in which three are from Alvarion and two are from Samsung. Infotel is doing tests to confirm interoperability between BTSs from different vendors.

In June, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) acquired  Infotel Broadband Services (P) Ltd, which had emerged as a successful bidder in all the 22 circles of the auction for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum.

Based on company statement, earlier it appeared that RIL may ditch WiMAX and may follow TD-LTE path. According to a RIL statement, A single 20 MHz TDD spectrum when used with LTE (Long Term Evolution) has the potential of providing greater capacity when compared to existing communication infrastructure in the country.

RIL Infotel still may choose TD-LTE as a next migration path from WiMAX.

Another BWA winner Aircel has indicated that it may choose WiMAX or TD-LTE for 2.3GHz spectrum deployments or it can roll out both.
