Russian operator MegaFon plans to start LTE tests in Kazan, Russia this year. It will be the second after another operator Scartel, which will test in Kazan. According to Kommersant, Russian daily, MegaFon expects to receive LTE frequencies before anyone else.

Currently, the operator is working on getting to this frequency. “Now MegaFon in Tatarstan has everything you need to create a LTE test zone in Kazan, including technical ability and willingness to invest in technology development,” said Igor Azure, the Regional Director of Tatarstan Volga branch of MegaFon.

Scartel (Yota) is expected to start LTE in August in Kazan with 40 base stations and by the end of the year it will bring their number to 200. Scartel intends to use the frequencies issued to it by the State Commission for Radio Frequencies in the development of mobile WiMax.

Report suggests that MegaFon is confident in getting the frequency soon as without it the test run will not work.
