Philippines service provider Globe Telecom has started testing the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in collaboration with parent SingTel.

The trials will take about six to nine months and is meant to understand LTE and determine the best approach and strategy for its adoption locally.

Globe is only operator offering WiMAX in the Philippines after launching the service in June 2009. It has rolled out WiMax to serve as its “fixed” wireless broadband offering.

NEC had announced field trials of LTE with SingTel last month. This trial is scheduled to be carried out by SingTel and its telecommunication carrier subsidiaries in Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines. NEC is participating in the trial through Globe Telecom in the Philippines.

“NEC is honored to take part in these LTE field trials in cooperation with the SingTel Group’s Globe Telecom. We are confident that we can contribute to the success of this trial and support SingTel’s network transformation LTE strategy,” said Kazuya Hashimoto, general manager of NEC’s Mobile Access Network Division.”
