Percello’s New Femtocell Supports 24 HSPA+ Users and Up to 32 UMTS Voice Calls

Percello has announced the availability of the PRC6600, a powerful digital baseband SoC for enterprise and outdoor femtocell use. The newest member of the Percello Aquilo(TM) Femtocell SoC product line, the PRC6600 enables femtocell vendors to develop femtocells that are smaller in size and require less power, but deliver the ability to serve more users and extend the cell range.

The PRC6600 maximizes digital integration on a single chip to deliver greater HSPA+ femtocell performance. The chip contains an 800 MHz MIPS CPU and its peripherals, femtocell L1 engine (FLE) and embedded DDRs. As a result, it does not require any external memory or digital parts on the board.

The PRC6600 is compliant with 3GPP Home Node B (HNB) specs and is capable of supporting 24 HSPA+ 21.6/5.76 Mbps users and up to 32 UMTS voice calls at a range of 3,000 meters. It also is designed for optimal outdoor use, supporting high velocities and receive diversity.

“With unmatched capacity and unmatched data rates, the PRC6600 gives vendors the flexibility to develop HSPA+ femtocells for enterprise and outdoor applications,” said Yoav Volloch, vice president of Business Development at Percello. “With this new device, carriers will be able to deploy compact open, hybrid and closed HSPA+ hotspots virtually anywhere.”

In addition, PRC6600 is a scalable solution. “For 48- or 64-user configurations, two PRC6600s can be connected in a cascade,” Volloch added. “The ability to easily expand the solution is one of the fundamental features of Aquilo architecture.”

Samples of the PRC6600 are now available and mass production will start during the fourth quarter of 2010.
