Optus Expands LTE Coverage, Announces Additional Markets

Australian operator Optus has launched LTE network in Wollongong. Optus has switched on LTE at five mobile sites in central Wollongong, kicking off a series of extensive network upgrades and expansions in the greater Illawarra area in the coming six months, which will also include upgrades to the Optus 3G network.

AT&T Announces New LTE Markets

AT&T has announced additional LTE markets earlier this week, operator’s LTE network now covers 326 U.S. markets. According to AT&T more than 200 million people are covered by its 4G LTE network.

Sprint Expands LTE Network into 22 New Cities

U.S. operator Sprint announced expansion of its 4G LTE network in 22 new cities including Miami, New Orleans, Raleigh, N.C., and Tampa, Fla. Sprint’s LTE network is now serving 110 markets nationwide and expects to provide 200 million people with LTE by the end of 2013.

Vodafone Australia Launches LTE Network

Vodafone Australia has switched on 4G LTE network in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle and Wollongong as announced earlier. Vodafone holds 2 X 20MHz contiguous spectrum and has demonstrated trial speeds up to 100Mbps earlier.

Ericsson: 4.5 Billion Smartphone Subscriptions by End of 2018

Mobile-data traffic will continue to grow significantly in the coming years. According to latest Ericsson Mobility Report, Video makes up the largest segment of data traffic in networks, and it is expected to grow around 60 percent annually up until the end of 2018.

TeliaSonera Wins 800 MHz Spectrum in Estonia

TeliaSonera has secured frequencies in the 800 MHz band in Estonia in a contest arranged by the Estonian Technical Surveillance Authority. Operator won 2 x 10 MHz frequencies in the 800 MHz band. According to operator, the 800 MHz frequencies will enable a faster roll-out of 4G services in Estonian rural areas.
