Irish Regulator ComReg Announces 4G Spectrum Auction Results

Irish telecom regulator ComReg has announced the results of its multi-band spectrum auction. This auction awarded spectrum rights in the former GSM-only bands (900 MHz and 1800 MHz) and in the 800 MHz band (‘Digital Dividend’). The licenses enable the operators to start 4G LTE services beginning 2013.

Telcel Launches Commercial LTE Network in Mexico

Telcel, a subsidiary of Latin American wireless services provider America Movil has launched commercial LTE network in Mexico. Starting last week, Telcel LTE network has coverage in 30 areas of nine major cities: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Queretaro, Puebla, Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, Hermosillo and Merida.

AT&T Brings LTE Coverage to Eight New Markets

AT&T has turned on its 4G LTE network in eight new markets, with this expansion AT&T LTE is now live in 88 markets covering  more than 135 million people. The added markets include Provo-Orem, Denver, Daytona Beach, York, Milwaukee, Tacoma, Milwaukee and Louisville. 

Moldcell Opens LTE Network for Tests

Moldova’s mobile service provider, Moldcell has launched a 4G testing area at Moldcell cafe, located in capital, within a few days after obtaining its 4G license. Operator is inviting all those interested to test the LTE functionality using different terminals.

Ofcom Announces LTE Spectrum Auction Plan

UK regulator, Ofcom has announced a timetable for the 4G LTE mobile spectrum auction. This new spectrum will almost double the amount of bandwidth currently available to 3G networks. Ofcom has confirmed reserve prices for the different lots of spectrum to £1.3 billion and has set the auction rules, from applying to bidding.
