Chile Awards LTE Spectrum to Big Three

Chile’s regulator Subtel  has awarded LTE spectrum to country’s three largest mobile operators in auctions that raised more than US$12 million.

Chile’s regulator Subtel  has awarded LTE spectrum to country’s three largest mobile operators in auctions that raised more than US$12 million.

America Movil’s Claro, Telefonica’s Movistar and Entel won spectrum in the 2.6-GHz band. Under the terms of the licenses, the companies will have 12 months to deploy their networks nationwide service and 24 months maximum for connecting additional mandatory 543 isolated locations.

These three companies were the only candidates in the competition launched in 2011 by the Department of Telecommunications, SUBTEL to introduce mobile broadband high-speed and greater capacity in the country.

According to the result of the tender, for Block A, America Movil’s Claro spent US$2.9 million and Entel spent US$8.8 million  for Block B. Telefonica’s Movistar put US$500,000 for Block C.
