Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced a clarification on Omantel’s claimed 4G LTE trials.
Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced a clarification on Omantel’s claimed 4G LTE trials.
In a bid to “dispel any wrong impression†TRA issued the following clarification: “TRA has awarded 30 MHz of the frequency spectrum in the 2.3GHz band to Omantel for the provision of nomadic wireless broadband services under their licence of Fixed Public Telecommunications Services and not for the exploitation under Public Mobile Telecommunications Services Licence.,” according to Oman Observer.
TRA clarified that it had allowed Omantel to carry out a trial of the LTE technology for delivery of fixed broadband services only but not for any 4G mobile services.
Last month in July, Omantel has announced commissioning a 4G LTE network & claims to achive very high speed data transfer. Omantel’s first demonstration of the new LTE network capability coincided with the launch of Salalah Tourism Festival at the Company’s pavilion at the Municipality Recreation Center.
