“Stop doing trials and launch your networks,” said Tommy Ljunggren, senior VP and head of system development at mobility services at TeliaSonera. “My advice is don’t make any trials,” he further said.
TeliaSonera was the first operator in the world with the launch of commercial 4G services to customers in Stockholm, Sweden, and in Oslo, Norway, in 2009. During 2010, the extensive network roll out continues in 25 cities and recreation areas in Sweden and in 4 in Norway. TeliaSonera has secured deliveries for 4G modems with support for 3G and 2G during the second quarter 2010.
The Swedish network currently covers central Stockholm plus the nearby Kista Science City, Hammarby Sjostad neighbourhood and the Alvsjo area. This will expand to 25 cities this year, with Q3 seeing launches in Lund, Vasteras, Malmo, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Linkoping.
TeliaSonera has plans to upgrade its Stockholm network to hit theoretical peaks of 100Mbps and practical maximum rates around 80Mbps. The leap will be achieved with improved backhaul capacity and superior network tuning – which has already enhanced the experience since the last set of independent benchtests
TeliaSonera has already won a 4G license in Denmark lastweek and will launch 4G services to Danish customers during the spring 2011.
