March 22, 2010 – Tecore Networks, a global supplier of multi-technology 2G, 3G and 4G mobile network infrastructure, today introduced a revolutionary network platform size- and cost-optimized to bring 3G UMTS and 4G LTE applications and services to the furthest edges of the global broadband footprint. The all-IP, software-defined iCore including Radio Network Controller (RNC) is now available on a server blade for integration into the NodeB/eNodeB chassis, or as a hosted solution. iCore is also backward-compatible with the 2G GSM and CDMA standards and fully compliant with 3GPP Release 7, with a software-upgrade path to Release 8. This system is capable of supporting subscriber bases of as few as 100 and as many as thousands of subscribers, and can be deployed with standards-compliant NodeBs or eNodeBs. Further demonstrating that next-generation services can be delivered anywhere on the globe, Tecore can provide an entry-level core network at an unprecedented price per node, creating a new paradigm in mobile broadband infrastructure.
Rural markets have far fewer technology choices than metropolitan areas. Even as networks in urban centers are upgrading to 4G, many rural and remote carriers are just introducing 3G, focusing on towns with populations above 20,000. Tecore is the only vendor developing 3G UMTS and 4G LTE infrastructure addressing requirements of small- and mid-size networks, with the capability to scale the network as the subscriber base grows.
iCore is built on a carrier-grade architecture that has been deployed in commercial and specialized networks worldwide. Based on customer demand and evolution of the standards, the iCore portfolio now includes:
- All-IP communication and signaling including an IMS core
- Concurrent support for voice and data services for GSM, CDMA, UMTS and LTE, from common object code
- All core network elements
- Optional integrated RNC
- Peer-to-peer IP switching, enabling tandem-free operations for signaling as well as transcoding-free operation for VoIP or RTP
- Carrier-grade Linux operating system.
In addition to implementations for smaller markets, iCore has been deployed on a range of hardware platforms including compact-PCI, microTCA and high-availability ATCA. The Rapid Deployment System (RDS) is a complete transportable network including 2G and 3G core and radio access network in five rack units.
