Ofcom Unveils 4G Spectrum Auction Plan
UK’s 4G spectrum auction is set to get under way by the end of 2012, announced regulator Ofcom today. The auction will offer the equivalent of three quarters of the mobile spectrum in use today – some 80% more than released in the 3G auction which took place in 2000.
Sprint Extends LTE to 15 Cities in Georgia, Kansas, Missouri and Texas
US wireless carrier Sprint has announced that its 4G LTE network is now available in 15 cities surrounding the Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio markets. Sprint will also launch a 4G LTE network for residents in and around Waco, Texas.
Omantel Launches Commercial LTE Network
Integrated telecom services provider, Omantel has announced the commercial launch of its 4G LTE network in the Sultanate of Oman. The LTE network launch comes after a series of trials which successfully delivered speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Company has awarded its LTE network contracts to Huawei and Ericsson end of last May.
AT&T LTE Available in Six New Markets
AT&T has turned on its LTE service in Buffalo, N.Y.; Burlington, N.C.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Gainesville, G.A.; Greensboro-Winston Salem, N.C., and Wichita, Kan., bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology. AT&T expects its LTE deployment to be largely complete by year-end 2013.
3 Denmark Readies LTE Network for Launch
3 Denmark has rolled out 4G LTE network in the country’s 15 largest cities and plans to continue to improve and expand coverage in next few months. Operator’s LTE network will cover 37 percent of the country’s population when it becomes available to customers in September later this year.
