MetroPCS Launches VoLTE-Capable LTE Smartphone

U.S. carrier MetroPCS has announced commercial launch of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services and availability of VoLTE-capable handsets. MetroPCS is selling the new VoLTE-capable LG Connect 4G Android smartphone at select U.S. stores and will continue to roll out VoLTE services and phones in the coming weeks.

SK Telecom Launches Voice over LTE Service

South Korean service provider SK Telecom has launched HD voice call service over LTE. According to the company, HD voice call connection time is less than 0.25 to 2.5 seconds, 2 to 20 times shorter than 3G voice calls that require an average of 5 seconds to connect a call.

Vodafone Greece Invests in Deployment of LTE Network

Vodafone plans to deploy mobile broadband 4G network in selected areas in Greece this year. Vodafone began in 2010 the deployment of 4G LTE network in Europe, and today its 4G networks are already deployed for commercial use in Germany and Portugal, whereas pilot testing continues in a series of countries.

AT&T Expands LTE Coverage, Adds New LTE Markets

AT&T has launched 4G LTE service in four new markets – Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach, Fla., and Worcester, Mass., and expanded LTE service in Baltimore, Boston and Washington, D.C.. Operator’s LTE network is now live in 51 markets. AT&T expects its LTE deployment to be largely complete by year-end 2013.
