Jordan’s four major mobile operators (Zain, Orange, Umniah and Express) may soon submit proposals to obtain the LTE licensing, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).
“The commission adopted a document last week specifying the standards and conditions for obtaining the licence for LTE, the latest broadband technology, which has an information carrying capacity of 150 megabits per second”, said TRC Chief Commissioner Fadi Kawar according to a report from The Jordan Times.
In order to be eligible to introduce the LTE services, a mobile operator needs a minimum of 20Megahertz spectrum, the TRC chief indicated.
Zain had earlier indicated in March that Zain is awaiting a decision by the telecoms watchdog, the TRC, on the award of the necessary licenses which will hopefully lead to the launch of a trial network later this year, ahead of an official launch in early 2011.
