Ericsson and Swisscom have stepped up their 5G game by setting up end-to-end, multivendor 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) data call on 3.5 GHz band in the Swiss city of Burgdorf. Swisscom aims to be the first mobile operator in Switzerland to offer 5G services, pending the definitive outcome of commercial spectrum in the country.

Swisscom Deploys Gigabit LTE with Ericsson’s Radio Dot System
Swisscom is bringing gigabit connectivity to operator’s retail stores with the deployment of the Ericsson Radio Dot System. In Swisscom shops across Switzerland, gigabit speeds were achieved by the Ericsson Radio Dot System, with carrier aggregation over 3 LTE frequency bands, 4×4 MIMO and 256QAM, delivering up to 1.2Gbps in downlink capacity.
Swisscom first to launch three carrier aggregation combining LTE FDD and TDD modes in Europe
Swisscom is provided by Ericsson the Europe’s first fully commercial LTE-Advanced three-carrier aggregation solution combining LTE in both FDD and TDD modes. The demonstration used three carriers in two bands in a radio access network and used commercial-grade chipsets.
Swisscom Testing 450 Mbps LTE Speed, Expects Launch by 2015 End
After having introduced 4G/LTE at the end of 2012 and LTE advanced in mid-2014, Swisscom is now testing 4G/LTE bandwidths of up to 450 Mbps. Operator expects to launch higher speeds from the end of 2015. It will also be possible to make phone calls via 4G/LTE from summer next year, too.
Swisscom Boosts Quality of Indoor Reception
Swisscom has announced that 94% of the Switzerland’s population can use its 4G/LTE network. For 2G or 3G technology, the figure is over 99%. Swisscom is also now seeking to improve the quality of indoor reception.
Swisscom Adds LTE Roaming in 10 More Markets
Swisscom is now offering 4G LTE roaming in further ten countries. Nine of those countries are in Europe including Italy, Spain and Greece. In addition operator has also started LTE roaming in Brazil.
Swisscom Coverage Reaches 60% of Swiss Population
Switzerland based mobile operator Swisscom has announced that 60 per cent of the Swiss population already have access to operator’s LTE network at some 300 locations across the country. According to Swisscom, around half a million its customers already use 4G LTE – second only to Sweden in Europe.
Rogers Announces LTE Roaming to Switzerland
Canada’s Rogers Communications has signed a new agreement with Switzerland’s Swisscom to deliver bilateral LTE roaming to customers of both mobile service providers. As of July 31st, Rogers and Swisscomm customers travelling with a 2600 MHz device can have LTE service while in Canada or Switzerland.
SK Telecom Expands LTE Roaming Services to Canada and Switzerland
