South Korea’s SK Telecom has started expanding installation of base stations to use 10MHz bandwidth from 2.1GHz band for LTE from May 7 in certain areas in Seoul, Gwangju and Busan. The company already built an LTE test-bed for 2.1GHz band in Busan last February.

SK Telecom Unveils LTE-Advanced 3 Band Carrier Aggregation
South Korea’s SK Telecom has unveiled “LTE-Advanced 3 Band Carrier Aggregation (CA)” technology that aggregates 3 bands 20MHz+10MHz +10MHz. This technology will support speeds of up to 300Mbps. LTE-Advanced 3 band CA is expected to become commercialized by the end of 2014.

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it will deploy an IP-based mobile backhaul network to support LTE-Advanced services for Korea’s mobile operator SK Telecom. The Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching-based (IP/MPLS) mobile backhaul solution, to be deployed in October, will link SK Telecom cell sites.
SK Telecom and SoftBank Launch LTE Roaming Service
South Korea’s SK Telecom and Japan’s Softbank have launched LTE roaming service in Japan and South Korea. LTE subscribers of SK Telecom and Softbank will be able to roam in Japan and Korea on the operators’ LTE networks.
