Deutsche Telekom, Alcatel-Lucent test in-flight broadband service based on LTE

Deutsche Telekom, Alcatel-Lucent and Airbus have successfully tested direct data communication using LTE technology, between an aircraft and a wireless network on the ground. When commercial, this solution will be able to provide in-flight mobile voice and broadband data communications services cost-effectively.

Cricket Signs LTE Deal With Clearwire

US carrier Cricket Communications has inked a five-year wholesale agreement with Clearwire. With the agreement, Cricket will become the second operator signed on to leverage Clearwire’s forthcoming LTE Advanced-ready network, which will provide capacity off-load services to supplement Cricket’s own LTE network. 

C Spire Wireless to Launch LTE in September

US provider C Spire Wireless will introduce 4G LTE mobile broadband services this fall. The company plans to invest $60 million to begin the roll out LTE in September in 20 Mississippi markets covering 2,700 square miles, a population of 1.2 million and more than 360 cell sites. 

Apple unveils new LTE capable iPad

Apple today launched the third generation iPad with new set of features that include Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics, a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics and 4G LTE support. iPad Wi-Fi + 4G with built-in next generation LTE capability also supports HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA.
