Ericsson is the second big vendor to report LTE network contract this week, yesterday Nokia Siemens Networks announced the LTE win to supply, deploy and integrate operator’s 4G, FDD LTE network.

SOFTBANK MOBILE Picks NSN to Offer LTE in Japan
Japan’s SOFTBANK MOBILE has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to supply, deploy and integrate its 4G, FDD LTE network. SOFTBANK MOBILE expects to offer LTE services in autumn 2012. Nokia Siemens Networks will also expand SOFTBANK MOBILE’s HSPA+ network to enable new services using the recently allocated 900 MHz frequency band.
Movicel Deploys Commercial LTE 1.8GHz Network in Angola
African operator Movicel has launched of commercial 1.8GHz FDD LTE network in the Cabinda province of Angola. Earlier during MWC 2012 in Barcelona, Movicel announced it would deploy the first commercial LTE network in Angola by the end of May 2012, however operator has rolled out network 45 days ahead of the original plan.
Nokia Siemens Networks wins StarHub Contract
Singapore’s mobile operator StarHub has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as its LTE mobile broadband infrastructure and services vendor. StarHub plans to re-use 1800MHz GSM spectrum to offer nationwide LTE service.
Bharti Airtel Launches TD-LTE Services in India
Indian Telco Bharti Airtel has launched 4G TD-LTE mobile services in Kolkata. Operator plans to roll out 4G services soon in the other three circles of Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai). Airtel has selected ZTE to plan, design, supply and deploy its TD-LTE network in Kolkata.
Leap Wireless, T-Mobile to Exchange Spectrum
Leap Wireless International has entered into license exchange agreements with T-Mobile USA (T-Mobile), Cook Inlet/VS GSM VII PCS LLC, a joint venture between T-Mobile and Cook Inlet, and Leap’s non-controlled, majority-owned venture Savary Island Wireless, LLC (Savary Island) to exchange wireless spectrum in various markets.
EMT Outlines 4G Progress, LTE Build-Out on Track
The mobile operator EMT has built 130 4G base stations covering almost 35 percent of the country’s population since it launched the LTE network in Estonia on December 16, 2010. During 2012, EMT will build additional 200 4G base stations. LTE will be available throughout the whole country by the end of 2014, company announced.
Airtel Likely to Launch 4G in Kolkata This Month
Indian telecom service provider Bharti Airtel is set to launch 4G services in Kolkata this month. “It will be launched this month in Kolkata,” Bharti Airtel CEO Sanjay Kapoor said when asked about launch of 4G services by the company on sidelines of GSMA event here, reports Financial Express.
Rogers Extends LTE Network to Calgary and Halifax
Rogers Communications has launched LTE network in Calgary and Halifax, Canada. With this further expansion, Rogers brings LTE to nearly 12 million Canadians, says the company. Operator further plans to cover almost 60 per cent of the population by the end of the year.
LG Uplus Builds Nationwide LTE Network
South Korean carrier LG Uplus completed and launched a nationwide LTE network yesterday, reports cstimes. The operator has spent over 1.25 trillion won ($1.1 billion) on the network. The cellular service will be available in 86 cities around the country.
