North America Adds 19M LTE Subscriptions in 12 Months

LTE subscriptions in North America has soared to 22.3 million, a increase of almost 19 million in 12 months at the end of the 3Q 2012. This represents 51 percent of all 43.7 million LTE connections worldwide, reports 4G Americas. 128 commercial LTE networks have been launched in 58 countries to date.

Telsyte: LTE to Make Half of Mobile Services in Australia by 2016

Nearly half of all mobile connections in Australia will belong to 4G LTE by mid-2016, reports Telsyte, an Australian independent emerging technology analyst firm. Telsyte estimates 46 per cent of total mobile connections will be 4G by mid-2016 and in some cases will provide an alternative solution to fixed-line broadband.

Sprint Opens LTE Network in 11 More Cities

U.S. mobile service provider Sprint has launched 4G LTE network in 11 new cities/counties in Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. With today’s expansion, Sprint now offers LTE service in 43 markets. 

SaskTel Starts LTE Network Technical Trial

Canada’s SaskTel has started testing its 4G LTE wireless network ahead of commercial launch. A technical trial with select employees will take place immediately with commercial availability scheduled for Regina and Saskatoon, and surrounding communities, beginning early February 2013.  

Vodacom Selects Nokia Siemens Networks to Enable Voice & SMS Continuity with CSFB in LTE Network

South Africa’s telecom service provider, Vodacom has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ Liquid Core to enable circuit switched fall-back (CSFB) functionality in its LTE network. This functionality allows LTE users to make and receive voice calls using either the GSM or 3G network while retaining the benefit of data services via LTE.
