T-Mobile USA, Nokia Networks Plan to Accelerate Licensed Assisted Access Deployment

T-Mobile and Nokia Networks are developing a pre-standards LAA (also referred to as LTE-U) solution for more LTE capacity and increased network performance. At Mobile World Congress, Nokia Networks will demonstrate the capabilities of LAA, using its Nokia Flexi Zone small cells technology, currently deployed by T-Mobile.

3GPP Reaffirms LTE-Advanced Name

3GPP has defined the standards for LTE, with the latest work focusing on LTE-Advanced, which includes all work from 3GPP Release 10 onwards. 3GPP’s Project Coordination Group (PCG) approved it during their meeting on April 3rd, 2013.

Future 3GPP Radio Access Technologies

Earlier this month 3GPP held a 3GPP RAN Workshop on Release 12 and onwards to identify common requirements for future 3GPP radio access technologies. 3GPP Workshop was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 11-12, 2012 and had 246 participants.
