Earlier this month 3GPP held a 3GPP RAN Workshop on Release 12 and onwards to identify common requirements for future 3GPP radio access technologies. 3GPP Workshop was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 11-12, 2012 and had 246 participants.
Earlier this month 3GPP held a 3GPP RAN Workshop on Release 12 and onwards to identify common requirements for future 3GPP radio access technologies. 3GPP Workshop was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 11-12, 2012 and had 246 participants.
Presentations were also brought forward proposals for potential technologies for 3GPP elaboration. According to Takehiro Nakamura, 3GPP RAN Chairman, there were over 50 presentations from the leading operators and manufacturers during the two days. Proposals included Interference coordination/management, Dynamic TDD, Frequency separation between macro & small cells, Inter site Carrier aggregation, Wireless backhaul for small cells and more.
The workshop also considered potential technologies for Release 12 and onwards, including
- Enhanced Small Cell for LTE
- LTE Multi-Antenna/site technologies
- New procedures and functionalities for LTE to support diverse traffic types
- Interworking with WiFi
- Continuous enhancements for MTC, SON, MDT and advanced receiver
- D2D (“device to device”)
- Further enhancements for HSPA including interworking with LTE
