SK Telecom Targets 7 Million LTE Subscribers by 2012 End

Despite continuous rise in smartphone penetration and strong growth of LTE subscriber base, SK Telecom’s revenue decreased by 0.6% year-on-year due to the impact of diverse mobile tariff cut measures including lowering of the monthly basic rate, company announced today.

NTT DOCOMO, NEC and Fujitsu to Setup Communications Platform Device JV

NTT DOCOMO, NEC, Fujitsu and Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited have agreed to form a joint venture to focus on the development and sales of semiconductor products with built-in modem functions for use in communications equipment.

Nokia Siemens Networks to Implement Optus’ EPC and Rollout LTE 1800MHz RAN

Optus has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to modernize its mobile network, refarme the 900 MHz GSM frequency band, and provide infrastructure and services for LTE rollout in Sydney and Perth. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying LTE core to Optus.

Optus Opens TD-LTE Trial Network, Expands FDD-LTE Network

Australian mobile service provider Optus has expanded the availability of 4G services utilizing its 4G FDD-LTE network in Sydney and Perth. Optus will have two 4G products available, the Optus 4G USB and the Optus 4G mobile Wi-Fi modem.

Verizon Wireless Adds 33 New LTE Markets, To Cover More Than 400 Markets By End Of 2012

Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is now available in 33 new markets and expanded in 32 other markets. According to the company, it is on track to meet its goal of covering more than 400 U.S. markets by the end of 2012.

China Mobile Hong Kong Selects Ericsson, ZTE to Build TD-LTE Network

China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) has selected Ericsson and ZTE to build the seamless converged FDD LTE and TD-LTE  network in Hong Kong. The two companies have equally share in the form of 50 percent respectively on the network construction project. CMHK is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Mobile Limited.

China Mobile and Clearwire Sign MOU for Roaming on TD-LTE

China Mobile International and US carrier Clearwire have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) for international roaming between China and the United States using TD-LTE.

Sprint Extends LTE to 15 Cities in Georgia, Kansas, Missouri and Texas

US wireless carrier Sprint has announced that its 4G LTE network is now available in 15 cities surrounding the Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio markets. Sprint will also launch a 4G LTE network for residents in and around Waco, Texas.
