Telefónica has demonstrated transfer of voice calls from a LTE network to a 3G mobile network seamlessly and without interruption. According to operator, this handover was achieved in Germany in a test laboratory environment that accurately simulates that of a real mobile network.
Telefónica Deutschland used the SRVCC standard (Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) to allow the handover of a VoLTE call from the LTE network to 3G with components from several different suppliers, corresponding to actual conditions in today’s mobile communication networks. Handsets and network components from at least six different manufacturers have been used, including Acme Packet, Ericsson, Huawei, NSN, Qualcomm and Sony Mobile.
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month (25-28 February) Telefónica will showcase demonstrations on the implementation of voice in LTE networks, as well as outlining its next generation wireless strategy for the future.
