Dutch Radiocommunications Agency has awarded mobile spectrum rights to four operators in the Dutch auction which completed on December 14, 2012. They are Vodafone, KPN, T-Mobile and Tele2. The total revenue generated by the auction is € 3.804 billion.
The Dutch Multiband frequency auction started on October 31 2012. All 41 licenses that were auctioned have been allocated. The licenses on offer were for frequencies where existing licenses are due to expire in early 2013, as well as for frequencies in bands that were previously unassigned. The combination of current and new frequency holdings provides opportunity for all winners to deploy and provide the LTE services for their customers.
Currently KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone have own licenses to provide mobile services in Netherlands while Tele2 operates as an MVNO. From 2013, Tele2 has the option to roll out a private network as well. Tele2, which won 2 licenses in the 800 MHz band, has previously acquired 2600 MHz license and plans to build LTE network.
Total 41 licenses, covering 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2.1GHz and 2.6GHz were auctioned. Vodafone took nine of the licenses while KPN and T-Mobile won 15 each.
KPN plans a large scale launch of LTE services as soon as February 2013 and expects to have covered approximately 50% of the Dutch population by mid-2013 and nationwide coverage in the second half of 2014.
Multiband frequency auction started on October 31, 2012 with five players seeking the spectrums. ZUM
[Ziggo, UPC mobile], which currently has block of 2600MHz band, did not receive any new spectrum.
