ZTE has formed a partnership with ChinaTel to promote the process of broadband access solutions and services worldwide. ZTE and Perusat, the subsidiary of ChinaTel in Peru, have been deploying a nationwide WiMAX (LTE-Ready) network in Peru.
Phase one encompasses the eight most populated cities of Peru except Lima. Further expansion will cover the rest cities in Peru, including Lima and Callao.
The national network deployment is expected to be completed by 2017. ChinaTel has chosen to upgrade the first base station equipment ZTE is manufacturing for Perusat. ZTE expects to deliver the equipment to Peru by May 2011. ChinaTel estimates the commercial launch of the Peru network will occur by August 2011.
“We are excited about our partnership with ZTE and its ability to fully deliver broadband equipment and end-to-end network solutions,”said ChinaTel’s CEO George Alvarez.
“ZTE is pleased to add ChinaTel as our strategic partner for development of wireless broadband networks,” said Mr. Zhou Hongfeng, VP of ZTE.
