Australian operator Telstra and Ericsson have announced the successful test of a high quality video link between Sydney and Melbourne using LTE. According to ZDNet, the throughput speeds achieved in the test were approximately 80 megabits per second (Mbps).
“This video call was a very important and unique milestone in our trial with Ericsson, which is testing how this new technology integrates with the core of the Next G network. We’ve been watching LTE developments for almost five years and we have a very clear roadmap for how we will use this technology in a way that complements the HSPA+ enabled Next G™ network,” writes Telstra’s executive director for networks and access technologies Mike Wright on Telstra’s Exchange blog.
This is the third LTE trial we’ve carried out this year and each has given Telstra a different insight into how LTE can work in Australia, he adds.
