Deutsche Telekom’s first LTE base station is fully operational in Kyritz/Brandenburg, Germany. In Kyritz, 800 MHz spectrum is used to provide efficient broadband coverage of rural areas.
Around 500 additional LTE transmitters will become active by the end of the year, the company said. In the following years, Deutsche Telekom will continue its network expansion to cover systematically under-served areas and open up additional 1000 white patches with 4G as early as 2011.
Deutsche Telekom has partnered network equipment vendors Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks for the development of the LTE. The latter also provided the technology at the site Kyritz.
