MetroPCS will become the first U.S. operator to offer LTE service when it launches 4G network next month, a Samsung executive said, reports Dow Jones.
MetroPCS will begin offering LTE services in Las Vegas and Dallas in September, said Jaebeom Choi, vice president of systems research and development for Samsung Electronics. However MetroPCS has declined to confirm this.
MetroPCS will also launch the first U.S. LTE phone, the Samsung Craft, alongside the services. There will be a limited number of LTE phones available in the near term because the technology is still relatively new, Choi said.
Earlier this month MetroPCS had reaffirmed its readiness to launch LTE in second half of this year while announcing net subscriber growth of approximately 1.4 million subscribers over the past 12 months.
