According to Dell’Oro’s latest Mobility Infrastructure report, Alcatel-Lucent retains its leading position in CDMA space. Alcatel-Lucent has reinforced its number one position on a quarterly basis, growing its market share – as measured by revenue – to more than 40% in 2Q’10 according to a company statement.
Alcatel-Lucent also announced that China Telecom has awarded it a contract to upgrade the service provider’s CDMA network in 56 cities across nine provinces. The deployment will be completed by the end of 2010. The company will provide its converged radio access network (RAN) solution, including its newly-designed, ultra-compact, indoor 9916 Macro Base Station. The base station’s green design reduces energy consumption by up to 24%.
“Alcatel-Lucent takes its leadership in CDMA very seriously. Building on it, we have started to partner with service providers around the world to implement our common view of the future: the evolution to a wireless all-IP network,†says Wim Sweldens, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s wireless activities.
With the tremendous global uptake in 3G services, Alcatel-Lucent believes that it is in a unique position with its Converged RAN platform to refresh older CDMA technology with more eco-sustainable, higher-capacity options, enabling customers to move to all-IP today, and prepare their networks for evolution to LTE when the time is right.
Alcatel-Lucent claims to have more than 70 CDMA customers in 40 countries – and supports five of the top six global CDMA operators.
