The open source mobile cloud sync company, Funambol has introduced Funambol DM Carrier Edition, a commercial open source device management solution for WiMAX.
Solution provides WiMAX Operators and Device Makers With Low-Cost End-to-End Solution for Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) Updates, Bootstrap, Provisioning, Troubleshooting and Lock-and-Wipe.
Funambol Developed it in colaboration with Clearwire. Currently solution consists of a server and a client for WiMAX devices only and it would be available for LTE shortly according to company statement. The server is built on the foundation of the open source Funambol DM Server that is optimized for 4G operational challenges in an all-IP network. The client supports multiple network profiles (roaming) and DRMD diagnostics for network QoS support.
“Device management is required to enable WiMAX devices to sustain high performance. Our solution provides 4G mobile operators and device manufacturers with the ability to perform a full range of device management tasks, everything from set-up and provisioning, to diagnostics and updates. The system is scalable, flexible and can be fully customized. Customer support, network and operational functions will become much more cost-effective as a result of implementation,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO.
Funambol is based on open source, for full customizability. The solution can be deployed on-premises or hosted in the cloud by Funambol for customers.
