NetLogic Microsystems has announced that its families of multi-core, multi-threaded processors have been designed into multiple equipment, from eNodeB base stations to Gateways, that are deployed in NTT DOCOMO’s commercial LTE mobile network in Japan.
NTT DOCOMO announced on June 8, 2010 that it has begun verification of its new commercial mobile network system based on the LTE protocol in the Tokyo area, and is expected to enter full-scale launch of the extra-high-speed LTE commercial service in December 2010.
NTT DOCOMO’s 2GHz network system comprises dual-mode WCDMA and LTE base stations, LTE core network equipment and LTE-enabled mobile devices. Compatibility with W-CDMA will enable seamless handover for devices as they move between LTE and W-CDMA service areas in the network. As the leading mobile wireless operator in Japan, DOCOMO expects to confirm 5MHz-bandwidth throughput for 37.5 Mbps downlinks and 12.5 Mbps uplinks, followed by 10MHz-bandwidth throughput for maximum 75 Mbps downlinks and 25 Mbps uplinks in selected test areas.
“We congratulate NTT DOCOMO on the launch of the LTE network in Tokyo, and are excited to recognize the adoption of our industry-leading multi-core processors in Japan’s next-generation mobile infrastructure,” said Behrooz Abdi, executive vice president and general manager at NetLogic Microsystems. “Our high performance multi-threaded architecture has uniquely positioned us as a leader in intelligent LTE silicon solutions, and we are glad to see our products being designed into virtually every node of the LTE mobile infrastructure at multiple carriers worldwide.”
NetLogic Microsystems provides an end-to-end wireless infrastructure solution with its market-leading portfolio of multi-core processors, knowledge-based processors, Layer 7 content processors, network search engines and 10 Gigabit Ethernet PHY devices that offers customers unprecedented breadth, depth and scalability to develop systems from mobile edge to packet core.
