ZTE Corp & China Potevio Co Ltd have agreed to partner on products and services for China’s homegrown TD-SCDMA 3G standard and TD-LTE 4G standards, according to an cn-c114 article.
The two companies will establish a joint venture and cooperate on research and development as well as production and services, said the report.
ZTE and China Potevio are both the main equipment suppliers to the TD-SCDMA network of China Mobile.
ZTE may find it difficult to retain the top spot among winners of the latest TD-SCDMA telecom equipment procurement contracts from China Mobile as competition from peers intensifies, according to earlier reports.
China Mobile, which earlier surprised the market with an aggressive plan to procure equipment for the construction of 80,000 base stations in 92 cities in the Phase IV network expansion project, said that it would intensify its TD-SCDMA network in the existing 238 cities across the country.
