March 20, 2010 – Fujitsu has begun shipping next-generation mobile base station systems to NTT DOCOMO, INC., which plans to launch mobile communication services in Japan based on the next-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE)(1) standard in December 2010.
Fujitsu was selected by NTT DOCOMO in October 2006 as a vendor to develop and manufacture the company’s LTE wireless mobile base stations. Since then, the two companies have been jointly developing and evaluating the systems.
LTE, also called Super 3G, enables mobile communications with an ultra-high-speed transmission rate of 150 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream, in addition to featuring low latency. With these capabilities, LTE will give carriers the ability to deliver a new range of high-speed mobile services as well as to efficiently utilize wireless frequencies. LTE is expected to be adopted by carriers worldwide as an international standard for next-generation mobile communications systems.
Fujitsu’s LTE wireless mobile base stations (base unit and amplifier) will be employed to deliver NTT DOCOMO’s LTE services in Japan, scheduled for launch in December 2010. In order to facilitate a smooth transition between the current 3G (FOMA) and LTE services, Fujitsu’s base station systems are compact and easy to deploy, and feature an antenna unit compatible with both LTE and 3G.
The new LTE base stations incorporate numerous advanced Fujitsu technologies, such as highly efficient amplifier technology, to make them lightweight, energy-efficient, and high-performance. The base stations deliver both the high reliability required of social infrastructure systems and the environmental friendliness required of all new technology. As a company that is committed to providing a comprehensive array of mobile solutions, Fujitsu aims to further improve mobile communications by offering its finest selection of systems to customers in the global marketplace.
